How Does It Work?

2 Basic Types of Gatherings:

  • Dinner Gatherings – 3rd Saturday of the month @ 6:30pm

January, February, April, May, July, August, October, November

  • Special Event Gatherings

                    March, June, September, December

(or other times, depending on how ‘special’ the event is)

Dinner Gatherings

o       Broken into small gatherings to be held in peoples’ homes

o       Gatherings will all be cooking with a common theme

o       Everyone should volunteer to host at least one dinner gathering a year.

§         Gathering could be in your home; the common room for your living complex; maybe an outdoor setting in the proper weather. (In a real pinch, Duncan's Creative Kitchens could even substitute for a gathering location)

o       Each month, you will have the opportunity to join different people for dinner, thus ensuring a chance to meet more members of the cooking club. (If you find that you enjoy spending time with a particular couple or group of friends, you could register for the same gathering)

o       Dishes for a typical dinner gathering: Appetizer; Entrée; Side Dish; Side Dish; Dessert; and Wine & Drinks. When you register for the gathering, you also register for the dish you wish to make.

o       Registration will be first come, first served for each location & dish. If your registration can’t be accommodated, you’ll be notified with alternatives. To be fair to those who will be cooking, registration will close 1 week before Gathering.

o       The only expense to members will be the cost of the ingredients in the dishes they prepare.

o       Bring copies of the recipe you prepared to share with the others in your group.

o       Make sure to bring a camera. Send the digital photos to us & we’ll post some on the website and in the newsletter. That way everyone can see what fun you had.

o       Determine the one dish from your gathering that best symbolizes the theme of the evening, and we’ll add that recipe to our website and newsletter.

o       The Host

§         Serves as ‘team captain’ for that gathering

§         Determine the total number of people you can host

§         Decide whether your gathering will cook together at your home or guests will carry in finished dishes.

§         Receives first choice on the dish you will prepare (if any – by hosting a larger group, you may have the ability for all meal components to be covered by your guests)

§         Receives the contact information for the members who register for your gathering. It will be up to the host to contact them and arrange any special coordination that the gathering may require. (perhaps filling in additional dishes that were not volunteered or altering the starting time)

§         Ensures the selection of the best-themed dish for the gathering & submits it to the website.

Special Event Gatherings

  • A gourmet and/or cooking related outing
  • We will aim for the 3rd Saturday of the month, but circumstances may not always allow for it.
  • Special Events will most likely have a registration fee associated with it.
  • Registration will be first come, first served. Some registrations will need to be limited in number, based on the type of event and/or venue.
  • Any registration fees will need to be paid for in advance.
